What influence does sport have on menstruation?

influence du sport sur les règles

The frequency and severity of periods can be affected by physical activity. Being active during this time is synonymous with well-being.

If you are a great athlete and you exercise a lot, this is where you will see consequences on your menstrual cycle.

What is this due to?

To what is called the estrogen level. As a girl, your body secretes what is called estrogen, a hormone. The estrogen level in your body is directly linked to the level of your body fat, if this decreases very significantly due to energy expenditure, the estrogen level can become particularly low. As a result, this very low level can cause the disappearance of your periods. Don't worry, nothing alarming in itself, it does not put fertility at risk. But it's good to talk about it to your pediatrician or your general practitioner the next time you see him ;)

Moving reduces menstrual pain

The pain you may experience during your period is not due to physical activity, but to something called prostaglandins.

Prostaglandins are compounds produced by the body that promote contraction. They come into play during menstruation, when the egg has not been fertilized by a sperm, to remove the blood that has accumulated on the walls of the uterus.

When you exercise, you increase blood flow to your lower abdomen, which helps oxygenate your muscles and thus neutralize their contractions.

Your flow during exercise may seem heavier

You may feel like your discharge is heavier when you move. But the total amount of blood your endometrium is used to losing each month will be the same whether you move your body or not :)

So, there's no need to worry; just adapt your protection accordingly. Choose more absorbent pads and change them more frequently.

Or put on your Haomah period-specific sportswear that will allow you to move around in all directions without worrying about your period!
